Caring for Seniors in the San Francisco Bay Area Since 1996

Home Instead Senior Care is the trusted source of home care for Bay Area seniors and is referred by hundreds of health care, medical and social service organizations throughout the Bay Area. Since 1996, we have helped thousands of clients live independently - allowing them to enjoy the day-to-day activities they have come to count on.

Our professional CAREGivers provide one-on-one, non-medical assistance - helping seniors feel safe, more confident, and less isolated wherever they consider home. All CAREGivers are thoroughly screened, extensively trained, insured and bonded, and matched to your preferences. Our friendly team is dependable and quick to respond to your needs from a few hours-a-day up to 24 hours - seven days-a-week, including weekends and holidays.

We are locally owned and operated, serving seniors in the North and Mid Peninsula region with offices in San Bruno and San Mateo; and serving the Central Contra Costa County area with an office in Walnut Creek.

Please visit one of our local websites to find out more about our services and employment opportunities, and explore many valuable eldercare resources and information.

Originally from Leyte, Philippines, Dora has been with Home Instead Senior
Care since 1997 as a CAREGiver and now serves as Executive Director. Dora
was drawn to HISC by its dedication to the growing need for quality senior
care, as well as the drive and leadership of owner Martie Cruz.

"She's a motivator and a mentor to me and the rest of the team," said Dora.
"She insists on cultivating trust, compassion, love and positive attitudes.
There's never a dull moment working for HISC."

Dora, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Community Development degree, has a background in government - working as a business tax assessment officer and municipal counselor in the Philippines.

She enjoys the "closeness, craziness, laughter and good times" at HISC, finding great rewards in interacting with CAREGivers. Dora also has two sons and she loves to read.

ImageElizabeth (Beth) Acevedo, General Manager
Since February 2005, Elizabeth has served as Quality Care Manager where she puts her passion for making a difference in seniors' lives to work.

"This job is so rewarding in so many ways," she said. "Sometimes it's the smallest things - like a client simply smiling at me and reaching out to hold my hand."

Before moving to California, Elizabeth managed a clinical laboratory for nearly 18 years in her native home of San Salvador, El Salvador, Central America. She has a Bachelor's Degree from Instituto Cervantes in San Salvador and an English as a Second Language degree from Centro El Salvador.

In her spare time, Elizabeth likes to watch TV, take in a movie or relax with a good book.

ImageJosie Vicera, Customer Service Manager
Josie was drawn to Home Instead Senior Care because of the company's worldwide reputation for quality senior care, and its commitment to seniors, staff, CAREGivers, and the community.

"We're a family here," said Josie, a native of the Philippines and Client Care Manager at HISC. "Our mission is to enrich the lives of seniors and that goes beyond caring for them at home. We give back through several senior community service projects including the "Hand in Hand" program and "Be a Santa to a Senior."

Josie began with HISC as an administrative assistant in October 2000, later serving as Community Service Representative and then Staffing Supervisor at the Oakland HISC office. She has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy degree.

Josie is married and has two daughters. One day a week, you'll find her throwing strikes for Monday Mixer bowling league.

ImageEileen T. Bernabe, Community Service Manager
Caring for loved ones is second nature to Eileen, who has been with Home Instead Senior Care as Community Service Manager since October 2007. A native of Manila, Philippines, she cared for her mother who fell ill with cancer and was the ultimate big sister.

"My mother was my best friend and I will pass on the values she instilled in me to my four children," said Eileen. "I was orphaned at a very young age, and raised my six other siblings until they graduated from college."

A native of Manila, Philippines, Eileen has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics degree from the University of the Philippines. She has worked with the elderly from all walks of life since 1996 and has learned from the stories they share.

"Their experiences have widened my perspective and outlook on life," she said.

ImageKristina Aquino, Staffing Relationship Manager
Kristina came to Home Instead Senior Care to put her bachelor's degree in nursing to work, but found there was much more to the job.

"Working with HISC is like working from your home," she said. "It's like family here. You build rewarding relationships with co-workers and clients. It's a pleasure knowing that you're appreciated - it makes it easy to come to work every day."

Kristina, at age 20, began her career with HISC as a part-time CAREGiver in April 2001. Four years later, she took the position of Staffing Care Assistant. A native of Morong, Rizal, Philippines, Kristina worked as a nurse in a labor and delivery unit and at an OB-GYN clinic. She also volunteered in geriatrics and has ambulance training.

Family, friends, music and cooking are her other passions. She plays guitar and piano, loves to sing and dance, and cook.

ImageLoreto (Lori) D. Cariaga, CAREGiver Training Manager
In 2002, Lori joined Home Instead Senior Care as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and enjoys giving older adults the love and care they deserve. She draws on her experience as a nurse and a family caregiver.

"My aunt had a major stroke and was bedridden," said Lori. "I helped her exercise, applied warm compresses each day and gave her the tender loving care that helped her walk again."

A native of Sapang, Manaoag Pangasinan, Philippines, Loreta has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Baguio Philippines and a Bachelor of Nursing from Urdaneta Community College. She also taught high school for a brief time. In 2007, she pursued and passed the California Nursing Board certification.
